Virtual farmer’s market opens Tuesday

Staff reports

TROY – Miami County Locally Grown, a unique, online farmer’s market modeled after the successful virtual market in Urbana, will open for its first online orders on Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The market is 100 percent vendor-produced – all items for sale are grown in our gardens, baked in our homes, and created with our own hands.

Each week, vendors will post available products on the website,, where customers who have registered for a free account have from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Sunday to order products.

When the market closes for the week on Sunday night, vendors will receive a report of their sales complete with customer names and quantities. They then have until Tuesday afternoon to harvest and prepare customer orders, which they’ll deliver from 3-4:45 p.m. to First Place Christian Center on the corner of Franklin and Cherry streets in downtown Troy. Customer pickup and payment will immediately follow from 5-7 p.m. The first pickup is set for Tuesday, Aug. 9.

The beauty of a market structured in this way is the convenience for everyone. Not only are customers guaranteed a local product, but shopping is done when you choose – on the go or from the comfort of your home, with no question as to which vendors and products will be at the market. For vendors, they can prepare exactly what has been ordered, with a quick drop-off – no waste, no waiting, and no guesswork for anyone!

The vendors, who all come from within a 30-mile radius of the central pickup location, have an array of products to offer – the freshest fruits and veggies harvested to order, artisan breads, bakery goods, candies, herbs, teas, seasonings, live plants and flowers, sweeteners, salt and sugar substitutes, meat, eggs, jam, soap, body care products, household cleaners – everything you’d expect to find at a traditional farmer’s market and more.
