MIAMI COUNTY — A Troy teen who had been reporting missing and her boyfriend were located in Berea, Ky., early Thursday morning after their stolen vehicle broke down on the side of the Interstate.
The vehicle, along with Staten and McCulloch, were located in Berea, Ky., by law enforcement officials in the early morning hours Thursday. Samantha Staten, 15, of Troy, had been reported missing by a relative from a Morehead Street residence since June 17.
Staten and her boyfriend, Joey McCulloch, 18, allegedly stole a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer from the 300 block of South 2nd Street in Tipp City. The vehicle was reported stolen around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday evening.
According to Troy Police Department’ Capt. Joe Long, Staten will be charged with unruly runway in juvenile court and possibly more charges. Charges pending for McCulloch may include contributing to the delinquency of a minor and charges in connection with the theft of the vehicle.
It’s not the first time the teen had runaway from home. Staten was also reported missing from a relative’s home in Lima on June 13. The juvenile reportedly was listed as missing by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office and had been taken into custody by Troy Police when she was found in Herlinger Park on June 13. She was then transported to a relative’s home and Miami County Children’s Services were contacted.
