YMCA offering summer fitness programs

MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County is offering two new youth fitness class times this summer starting June 20. Registration starts Monday, June 13, for members and Thursday, June 16 for non-members.

The Kid Active class, will take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11-11:30 a.m. and Sundays from 1:30-2 p.m. Open to members only for a one-time fee of $30, the class is geared toward youth entering grades 4-6.

Youth will be lead in a variety of exercises using dumbbells, mats, ropes, bosu ball, medicine balls, as well as utilizing their own body weight for exercise. This program is designed to provide youth with the many benefits of regular exercise participation.

Jr. High Strength Training & Agility will be offered Mondays and Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. to students in grades 7-8. Participants will learn the principles, techniques and safety concerns with the use of strength training equipment. Also, a variety of strength training and agility drills will be used to increase the youth’s overall strength, agility and speed.

The cost of this class is $32 for members and $74 for non-members. A signed parental consent form is required before beginning this program.

The YMCA also will begin its Summer Fitness Challenge on June 20. This challenge is designed to keep families healthy and moving this summer. This is a great way to keep the whole family healthy or the challenge can be done by one individual. It’s a great addition to your regular workout.

Motivational emails, exercise tips and healthy recipes are included in the fee. Cost per family is $10 Health Center, $12 members, and $36 non-members.

Families completing the challenge will win a free YMCA water bottle for adults and YMCA Frisbee for the kids. All the participants’ who turn in the completed bucket list will have their names entered into a drawing for free matching YMCA T-shirts for the whole family and an eight-session sports enhancement package.

The challenge runs through Aug. 20.
