Hayner Hits the Road upcoming


TROY — The Troy-Hayner Cultural Center will be taking a one-day bus trip to Columbus on June 1,.

Participants will tour the Columbus Museum of Art where Leona Sargent, Hayner’s exhibit coordinator, will guide participants through the permanent collection. Then they are off to enjoy the lunch buffet at Schmidt’s German Village Restaurant. The buffet will include several sausages and side dishes as well as their famous crème puffs for dessert. Travelers will then head to the Franklin Park Conservatory for a docent led tour of the historic building and grounds. The all-inclusive trip cost is $65 for Troy City School district residents or Friends of Hayner members and $70 for out of district.

On Wednesday, Aug. 3 attendees will travel to Cincinnati to tour the “Dressing Downton: Changing Fashions for Changing Times” exhibit at the Taft Museum. The exhibit explores British fashion between 1912 and the early 1920s and will include 36 costumes, as well as accessories and film stills from the “Downton Abbey” television series. M. Lynn Barnes, PhD will serve as the docent. Lunch will be at the Moerlein Lager House, a favorite Cincinnati restaurant with a view of the river. The day will conclude with a docent led tour of the Taft House. This Greek Revival house is where William Howard Taft was born and grew up. This all-inclusive trip cost is $73 for Troy City School district residents and Friends of Hayner members and $78 for out of district. There are only 10 seats remaining for this trip and reservations can be made at the Hayner Center.
