Township discusses projects & polls

MONROE TOWNSHIP - Monroe Township Trustees announced at their April 21 meeting that May 1 was the last day for accepting bids for the purchase of a 3,000 gallon pumper/tanker truck which will be used by the Tipp City Fire Department in the unincorporated area of the township.

A legal notice has been run for two weeks in an area newspaper regarding this bid process and this same notice is posted on the township’s website. Bids received through May 1 will be opened by the board on Monday, May 5 at the trustees’ next regular 7 p.m. meeting.

A resolution was passed by the board to pay current bills totaling $35,774.36.

Recent projects by the township maintenance and road staff included springtime cleanup in township cemeteries, some foundation preparation for cemetery monument placement, and patching holes on township roadways. Notations were made of this year’s Dare Graduation which will take place Tuesday, May 6, at L.T. Ball Intermediate school, and that “letters of interest” are still being accepted at the township office (4 E. Main Street in Tipp City) for an open ,volunteer seat on the Tipp Monroe Cable Access board.

Of interest to local voters, the Miami County Board of Elections has announced some precinct changes for Monroe Township. Individuals going to the polls on May 6 are to visit the following precinct voting places: Monroe East Central Precinct to be held at Randall Residence, 6400 S. County Road 25-A; Monroe North East Precinct at Victory Church, 4645 S. County Road 25-A; and the remaining three precincts of Monroe West, Monroe South and Monroe South East all will hold polling spaces at the Ginghamsburg Church, 6759 S. County Road 25-A.

Monroe Township residents are reminded of 2014 Household Hazardous Waste Drop Off at the Sanitary Engineering Facility is from 2-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7. There is a charge of $1 per pound. Some of the accepted items include household cleaners, fluorescent light bulbs, pool chemicals, gasoline/kerosene, antifreeze, transmission fluid, mercury, turpentine, varnishes and stains, strippers, pesticides, fertilizers, unknown chemicals, and paint cans (latex and acrylic) including aerosol cans of paint.
