TROY — Chris Wolf has a knack for paying great attention to detail, a characteristic that has served him well in the business world.

Wolf, owner of Details Automotive Detailing, 304 S. Dorset Road, launched a new T-shirt design business just across the street from his car detailing business in July of 2012.

Since INK’D Tees Garment Printing, 306 S. Dorset Road, has been open, the company has provided people with a unique service, designing shirts, sweatshirts, polos, hats, jackets, hoodies and uniforms for all types of events and occasions. The company specializes in embroidery, screen printing (up to six colors) and heat press.

“I saw a market because of some of the designs and some of the pricing in this area … So far, it’s been pretty good,” said Wolf, who is originally from West Milton and graduated from Upper Valley JVS in 1993. “We’ve been open for about a year and a half. We’re not huge, but we’re not tiny either. It’s growing pretty quickly.”

Of course, there are other shirt design businesses in the area … but according to Wolf, the design capabilities and creativity at INK’D is what separates them from others.

“Our designs are what I want to set us apart from other people and our pricing,” Wolf said. “We’re not the cheapest, but we’re also not the most expensive. We’re doing work that a lot of people can’t do.

“Some of the Covington stuff we’ve done — there’s probably only one other printer in the area that has the capabilities to do that.”

Wolf said he got management experience while working several years at an injection molding plant. He was laid off in 2008, and decided it was time to focus on what he went to school for.

“I spent 17 years in injection molding, got laid off in 08.’ I started (Details), then I decided to start this business a few years later, because this is what I went to school for,” he said.

Wolf said INK’D gets a bulk of its business from Relay For Life events, 5k races, motorcycle and cancer benefits and schools. He also added the two-man staff at INK’D usually gets five times busier in the summer months.
