Senator Bill Beagle (R–Tipp City) announced Jan. 22 that Senate Bill 226 passed the Senate, which would designate a portion of State Route 41 in Miami County as the “Sheriff’s Sgt. Robert “Bobby” Elliot Memorial Highway.”
“Naming this highway after Sgt. Elliot would be a great reminder of his heroism and bravery as he served the people of Ohio,” said Beagle. “I hope this dedication gives his family, friends and loved ones some peace as his memory is honored.”
Sgt. Elliot was shot and killed while he was guarding a prisoner in Stouder Hospital on Feb. 25, 1987. He was 36-years old and had served at the Miami County Sheriff’s Department since his hiring at 21-years-old. He was survived by his wife, two daughters and son. One of his daughters still lives in Ohio.
Senate Bill 226 will now proceed to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration.
