Miami County Sheriff Charles Cox has placed Miami County under a Level 1 snow emergency due to icy road conditions and blowing and drifting snow.

All roadways are ice covered and rural roadways are having some drifting of snow. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously and give themselves plenty of time to arrive at their destinations.

“Drive very carefully and use common sense,” said Miami County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Dave Duchak.

He said traffic was down and a lot of people seemed to have stayed home this morning and he had only heard of one accident where a car had slid off the road with no injuries as of noon.

“People seem to be heeding the warnings and hopefully will stay in whenever possible,” he said.

He said with temperatures well below freezing, he hopes people come home from work today and stay home as the weather is only supposed to get worse for Tuesday.

Temperatures are expected to be just as blistering on Tuesday with the thermometer expected to dip to -12.

While all Miami County schools remained closed Monday, others closed as well, including:

• The Miami County Park District closed the parks and its offices for Monday

• Troy Senior Citizens Center is closed Monday

• The Troy-Miami County Public Library will close at 5 p.m. Monday
